TLC's Ultimate Cake Off

Season 2 - Old Hollywood Glamour Wedding Episode

WE WON!!!!

In November of 2009, Pat Jacoby, owner of PattyCakes in Highland, IL, was asked to come back as a lead competitor for Season 2 of Ultimate Cake Off. This season, the stakes are higher as all the cakes are larger, wider, more technically challenging and more creative than ever before.

Pat was thrilled when her daughter Leah agreed to be her lead assistant. She asked Ruth and Eric Woller, from her team on Season 1, to return to assist her. Eric also serves as an assistant for Jon Auburn on an episode airing February 15, 2010. Ruth was thrilled to go with Pat a second time.

The theme was to develop a cake for the wedding of Jenna and James. They love old Hollywood movies and wanted their wedding cake to embody the romance, glitz and glamour of that era. We all know how to make beautiful wedding cakes...but how do you make one over 5 feet tall, with moving parts and lights, and keep it elegant? The show aired on March 8, 2010 and once again, Team Jacoby were the winners.

Their cake was over 6 feet tall. The wedding cake itself consisted of 6 tiers and there were 4 three tier satellite cakes surrounding the wedding cake. The wedding cake featured a NY inpired skyline (where the couple fell in love), with white chocolate trees adorned with tiny seed lights and sugar crystals adding a touch of romance. The couple's wedding invitation design was stencilled onto the sides of several tiers. The entire wedding cake rotated. The groom's satellite cakes featured a tuxedo look with a top hat. At the push of a button, 4 elements about the groom popped up from inside the hats! This marked the first time that pneumatics were used during The Ultimate Cake Off.

Pat asked the bride when she knew she wanted our cake for her wedding...she replied "The second I saw it!" The cake was delivered to the golf course and set up in the tent for the wedding reception. Despite torrential storms and a bit of flooding in the tent, the cake presentation went off without a hitch!
